Educational Network Batterie MD

Network for securing the specialists in the battery value chain in Central Germany

The worldwide increasing demand for batteries for diverse applications in the energy sector, the automotive and electrical industry, mechanical engineering as well as in medical technology with simultaneous shortage of resources and skilled workers as well as environmental sustainability requirements poses great challenges for the battery industry. In order to strengthen the value chain of battery production - from raw material extraction to recycling - in Saxony, Saxony-Anhalt and Thuringia with regard to the demand-oriented qualification of skilled workers, Energy Saxony and nine other partners have launched the educational network BatterieMD - "Battery Ecosystem in Central Germany".

Project overview

Goals of the project:

Together with the innovation clusters, vocational training providers and scientific institutions involved in the project, current and future qualification needs of companies along the Central German value chain of battery cell production are to be identified first of all in order to be able to develop, test, implement and disseminate a systematic, needs-oriented and sustainable qualification concept based on this.

As first measures, the analysis of the most important actors along the battery value chain from raw material to cell and battery production to battery recycling as well as the composition of a qualified advisory board are planned. The advisory board is to be composed of representatives of social organizations, regional employment agencies and experts from politics and education.

Project duration:

01.04.2023-31.03.2028

Funding:

The German Federal Ministry of Economics and Climate Protection is funding the project over a period of five years with a total of € 7,619,057.56 as part of the funding program "Qualification measures for battery cell production". As project coordinator, Energy Saxony e.V. receives a grant of € 1,037,190.00.
